Delicate Arch, Arches National Park, Utah
Delicate Arch, a symbol of the Canyonlands Country and on the Utah license plate, is an erosional remnant of the Jurassic (approximately 208 to 144 million years old) Entrada Sandstone. More than 500 arches have been described from Arches National Park.
The Geological Society of America published this image as a cover photograph to promote their 1997 Annual Meeting in Salt Lake City. Over 6,000 geologists attended this meeting.
