Mesozoic granitic and chaparral covered slopes of the San Jacinto Mountains along Highway 74 in the San Bernardino National Forest. The San Jacinto Mountains are located at the northeastern end of the Peninsular Ranges, which extend from the Los Angeles Basin to the tip of Baja California and form one of the largest geologic provinces in western North America.
