A Geologic Travelogue from Colorado to California and Hawaii

This popular slide show provides an overview to the geology and natural history of Colorado, Utah, Nevada, California, and Hawaii. This east to west transect was chosen, because it represents the widest extent of the Cordilleran mountain system in North America and cuts across numerous geologic provinces, including the southern Rocky Mountains, Colorado Plateau, Basin and Range, Sierra Nevada, Great Valley, and Coast Ranges. We will also venture onto the Pacific Plate to discuss the Hawaiian seamount chain from the Big Island to Midway Atoll.

This slide show will provide brief introductions to the Precambrian geology, stratigraphy, historical geology, structural geology, geomorphology, hydrogeology, and glacial geology along this scenic transect. In addition, regional environmental issues will be discussed.
